Residents of Atlanta, Georgia can obtain a social security card through the Public Services. NOTE: Public Service Office hours are irregular - Open on Mon, Tues, Thurs and Friday from 9am-3pm, Wednesdays 9am-12pm. The Government office is located at:

Applications can also be processed online, all you need to do is visit http://www.ssa.gov/](http://www.ssa.gov/. That said, the cost for this convenience is $38.95, plus shipping & handling fees of $7.00 (it’s free if done in person at the Public Services office).



Detailed instructions are as follows:

Step 1
-----------------

Locate and print the SS-5 application from the SSA website or get a copy at the Public Services Office. Fill out the necessary information, using blue or black ink only, not pencil or any other colour ink. You will be required to provide 2 valid pieces of original identification such as; a birth certificate, US Citizenship, US passport or driver’s license. A Marriage Certificate or Divorce Decree is also acceptable. At the Public Services office, you will be given a number and asked to wait until it’s called out; If an applicant is under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign the SS-5 form.

The counter officer will review the application form and ask you for the required identification. If everything is in order, the application will be processed and a social security card will be mailed to you within 7 to 10 business/working days.

Step 2
-----------------

Online applications - on the SSA website, locate the application form and fill out accordingly. Review all entry fields to ensure information is correct, then print the document. Include an original copy of identification with your application form and send to the above address.

Do not send through regular mail/postal service in order to secure receipt of your original copy of identification documents. You must use a courier service or send by registered mail where somebody has to sign upon delivery.

Your social security card will take longer to arrive when using this method; approximately 10-12 days - to allow for the courier/registered mail delivery service and office review process time of 7-8 business/working days. All of your original documentation should be sent along with your new card but if anything is amiss, you should attempt contact the Public Services office immediately.
